The AWANA evening begins with students saying the Pledge of Allegiance, saying the AWANA pledge, singing the AWANA theme song, praying and leaders making announcements.
Children are then dismissed by clubs based on their ages and through the evening they will rotate through two 20-25 minute segments including:
This is the time in the evening when children recite Bible passages that they have memorized from their AWANA books. Either a leader or listener will sign off in each child’s book once a section is completed and mark off the completed verses on an AWANA score pad. AWANA secretaries receive the scores and keep track of which verses each child has completed. Students receive points for their color team for verses recited which contribute towards their team score. Children receive awards for completing whole sections of their book throughout the year.
The AWANA council time is a 20-25 minute session where the truths of the Bible are taught by guest speakers, leaders, or through skits, in a captivating way.
During dismissal time, each club announces any students who have completed books and present book awards to those students. They also award prizes to the winning color team with the most points of the evening for their club. All clubs pray together and children are dismissed to parents.
Cubbies rotate through a similar Opening time, Story time, Handbook time, Snack time and Dismissal in their own specified classroom space(s).
Each week children are encouraged to wear their AWANA uniform, bring their Bible and invite friends to join. Points are accumulated for each child each week who participate by reciting verses, wearing uniforms, bringing their Bible and inviting friends. All these individual points, including game time points contribute towards their color team score!
Many volunteers are needed each Wednesday night to make AWANA possible. Children in Grade 7 through adults, including grandparents, are welcome to volunteer to be youth leaders in training, leaders, and listeners.
There are fees collected for the cost of books, AWANA shirts and in some cases materials. Each club’s fees vary slightly. Scholarships are available for those with special circumstances. Please contact Awana Commanders Alysha Grosz 651-829-1598, Kim Grosz 715-386-1447 or Lisa Burton 715-222-5657 for cost or scholarship information.
Children are welcome to visit and join throughout the year. Register online any time!
