Discussion Questions

  1. Share a couple of times or experiences when you were deeply happy.
  1. Share the names of people who bring you happiness.
  1. Share a time that you were really disappointed.
  1. Are you happy more often or sad and disappointed more often? Do you know why?

REMEMBER: We know there are moments of deep happiness and joy in this world. We also know joy can be followed by disappointment and disillusionment. In this past week’s sermon, based on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, Jesus shares that full happiness will be found in heaven. Earthly happiness is a foretaste of the feast to come! That means...the best is yet to come!

Thank God that Jesus came to die for us and rise again for us so that our mistakes could be forgiven, so we could be blessed! Thank Him for all of the happy and joy-filled times He has provided for you in this world. Tell him how you look forward to being with Him in heaven one day when we will experience the fullness of joy!

Memory Verse

Blessed are the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3

Family Action Steps

Each of you think about where Jesus is challenging you to grow this week. Do you need to be more selfless, merciful, pure in heart or a peacemaker? Take some time to identify where you are spiritually in need; then in prayer, confess and ask God to transform and change you.

Family Activity

Choose an activity that together will make you happy as a family:

  • Play a game
  • Watch a funny movie
  • Cook your favorite meal
  • Take a family walk/bike ride
  • Serve someone together
  • Make a creative craft
  • Play together in your yard

In prayer, give the time to God as you get started and when you are finished. Ask him to give you all happiness and joy in the moment!
