Jesus wants us to be like salt and light? YES!! Talk through this week's FAITH at Home to discover the ordinary, yet amazing power of salt and light!
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
Ask God to help you resist the temptation to love the things of this world. Ask him to help you to be the salt of the earth…that keeps its salt (a disciple of Christ who doesn’t cave into loving the things of the world more than loving Jesus and his ways). Ask him to give you the courage to be a huge light shining in darkness – a follower of Jesus sold out to tell others about his love.
…Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
As a family, think of one or two families you can invite to watch FCC’s livestreamed worship. Then invite them!
Prepare your dinner tonight with no salt. See if anyone notices how bland the meal tastes. Before adding salt, explain this is what Jesus means when he says we are to be the salt of the earth. We are to infiltrate the world in our own quiet way, and bring flavor (faith in Jesus) to the whole world.
Along with your family dinner turn off all the lights (and mobile devices!). Light only one small candle and enjoy each other, the meal, and observe together how one small light can illuminate the whole room. Each one of us is like the light. We can be one small light bringing light to a dark world. Our light is our faith in Jesus Christ that can shine brightly for the whole world to have the hope, peace and love that comes from knowing Jesus!
As disciples of Christ, explain to your children this is our calling: we are to be salt and light for the world to see Jesus! We can do this! We are in this (as disciples), together!
