The mission of Faith Community Church is to make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ. We are hearing great stories of God doing extraordinary things through discipleship that’s happening as people are living their everyday lives. This is what we call as we go discipleship, because it is taking place as we intentionally go on mission as we go about our day-to-day activities.
We would love to help equip you to disciple others and experience God's life transforming power. One way we do that is through As We Go Discipleship Workshops, such as the one coming up after both services in the Refuge Room today. Pastor Tim Prince will be covering the root-to-fruit tool and how to use it in your own life and in discipleship relationships.
Some topics are so crucial, current, debated and/or divisive, they require focused attention in addition to sermons. Faith Community hosts Faith Forums as an additional way to offer biblical perspective on a variety of culturally relevant topics. Our next Faith Forum is scheduled for next Sunday, March 25, and the topic is The Gospel and Immigration. The evening includes a presentation by the speakers followed by Q & A (questions and answers.)
We’ve invited two experts on this topic as our featured speakers. Liz Dong is the Midwest Regional Mobilizer for the Evangelical Immigration Table. Liz is an immigrant and a recipient of DACA. She has a BA from Northwestern University and is currently working toward her MBA from the University of Chicago. She lived for two years in intentional Christian community with refugees and immigrants in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Our second speaker, Matthew Soerens, is US Director of Church Mobilization for World Relief and the National Coordinator for the Evangelical Immigration Table, a coalition of evangelical organizations of which World Relief is a founding member. He is the co-author of "Seeking Refuge: On the Shores of the Global Refugee Crisis" and "Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion & Truth in the Immigration Debate." He has written on the topic of immigration for publications such as Christianity Today, RELEVANT, Sojourners, The Gospel Coalition, and the Washington Post. He is a graduate of Wheaton College and DePaul University’s School of Public Service. Matthew lives in Aurora, Illinois, with his wife and three children. So please save the date of March 25 at 6:30 p.m. for the next Faith Forum.
Part of our vision at Faith Community Church is to see Christ empowering global missional leaders. One way we live that out is by partnering with a network of churches in the St. Croix Valley called The St. Croix Valley LEAD Team to extend our disciple-making convictions locally and globally. The LEAD Team churches, which include The Bridge in Somerset, Faith Community Church in New Richmond, The Village in Baldwin, The River in River Falls and Torrent in Prescott, will gather on Sunday, June 24 at 4 p.m. at Lakefront Park in Hudson. The event is called Vision for the Valley 2018, and you’re invited! We will celebrate what has transpired through our shared mission in recent years, cast vision for what the future could hold and share a meal. Stay tuned for more details, including a magazine coming out in May.
Today, we have a brief video to share with you, which includes a message about Vision for the Valley from Pastor Larry Szyman. Thank you for watching the video and please save the date of June 24th for Vision for the Valley.
