The Father is seeking such people to worship him.
Since the fall of 2018, I have been coming back again and again to Jesus’ talk with the Samaritan woman at the well. This story is so rich. One phrase that I keep coming back to is Jesus telling the woman, that true worship is worship that is by the Spirit and focused on Jesus, who is the truth. And then Jesus tells the woman that Jesus’ Father, God, is seeking people to worship him in this way.
God is seeking people to worship him. What an amazing statement. God is a seeker. One of the ways this has continued to shape me is in my prayers. On Thursday mornings I have been praying this prayer:
Father, you are seeking to save people, people around me. Please forgive me for my ineffectiveness and insensitivity to the people you are bringing into my life. Help me today to get into a meaningful spiritual conversation with someone you love and are drawing to your son.
It has been so great to experience God answering this prayer. Since I started asking God to help me get into meaningful spiritual conversations with people, he has been faithful to respond.
We are currently in the midst of 21 days of prayer, asking God to bring revival and renewal to Hudson churches. We are also praying for God to give us boldness and joy in talking about Jesus. Let’s remember that God is seeking people. Just as God sought us, he is seeking others. Let’s make ourselves available and willing to talk about Jesus as he answers our prayers.
