The Spirit's Power for Love and Self-Control

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1.7)

Brothers and sisters, so much is unsettling and challenging right now. But I want to remind you that God has given you his Spirit. Because Jesus lived for us, died for us, and rose again for us, the Spirit of the Living God is in you. When you were born again, the Spirit of God made that happen! The day you said “Yes” to Jesus, the Spirit invaded your heart, and made you new.  Amazing, just amazing! God is in you! You belong to God and he belongs to you! Forever!

And the Spirit of God in you doesn’t lead you in fear; he is in you to give you power for loving others and for self-control, a sound mind.

So today, remember God has given you himself. He is with you. No matter who you are, no matter what you have done, no matter what’s been done to you, you matter to God! God loves you so much and is so dedicated to you that he has done everything to create a forever relationship with you.

Be self-controlled—be prudent and wise. Let’s do everything we can to flatten the curve. Let’s act out of wisdom and care and not out of panic. Let’s love one another. By the help of the Spirit, let’s make it a priority to seek the greatest good of others. Let’s use this challenge as an opportunity to talk to others about spiritual things. Let’s help everyone meet, know, and follow Jesus during this time.

Let’s intentionally build relationships during this time.

Let’s remember that today, right here and right now, the Spirit of God is in you to give you power! Jesus secured the presence and power of his Spirit out of love for you. Right here and right now, the Spirit will lead you and give you the power you need for today!
