Post-Easter Promises

It is the day after Easter 2020. Yesterday was a one-of-a-kind Easter celebration because of COVID-19.

The impact of COVID-19 on every single aspect of life is stunning. I think it’s fair to say that we are being forced to reconsider every thought and action from the perspective of COVID-19.

My family worshipped at home watching Faith Community Church services online and we did not visit family or friends for Easter dinner, as we traditionally have done. Nothing was familiar and we made up new traditions on-the-fly. All the while, each member of my family lamented in some way about having to possibly endure another 30 days of "Safer at Home." Can you relate?

Our present struggles in life because of COVID-19 point to a truth that I have learned and come to accept in life: trails and troubles have this power to shrink our gaze upon all areas of life down to our present circumstances.

Our big picture perspective of what is most meaningful in life becomes so narrow that hopelessness can easily take hold and rule our hearts, which leads to anxiety, depression, and anger.

Celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ is something that we can do every day.

Easter Day is a glorious day in history and the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is a power that we can live by every day! Because of the resurrection from the dead by Jesus Christ, the following is true and has immense practical application in your life:

  1. Real guilt and shame are no more. Nothing that you have done, nothing that has been done to you, nor your lack of perfection will ever, ever, ever keep you from the love of God. He is for you!! For you! No matter who you are. Any form of shame that comes from the world is false. You need not live under its weight. All people can be made right and live justified. You are worthy because Jesus is worthy!
  2. Power for lasting change in your life is possible. No matter what you have done or what has been done to you, meaningful healing and change, and lasting renewal is possible. All other worldly ways of thinking are merely therapeutic and no more than an inch deep. They do not offer lasting change based on real hope. If you believe in Jesus Christ and live based on that belief, you will always have hope-filled choices. You do not have to live enslaved to whatever enslaves you anymore. Never again. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free (Gal. 5.1).
  3. Someday, there will be no more pain, tears, sorrow or difficulties. Someday you will be made perfect—better than you can even imagine. Your eternal future exceeds anything, because God's love for you exceeds anything you can even imagine. If you believe in Christ, your future is secure.

No other philosophy or way thinking can compare to these truths. Hope is a person: Jesus Christ. These three realities of the resurrection of Jesus Christ give perspective, power and purpose to you. You matter to God. Believe in him and change your way of thinking and living life. Post-Easter blessings to you, friend. May the reality of the resurrection of Jesus Christ stay at the forefront of your perspective on life.
