Consider the Lilies...
Luke 12.27
Recently I was grocery shopping with my wife, DJ, and we paused to look at the flowers for sale. My wife has a wonderful eye for detail, and she has helped me learn to consider the beauty of flowers. On this occasion, one flower caught my attention, and a flash of wonder went through my heart. My mind was captured by the fact that God cares about the beauty of flowers. Flowers that are here for a moment, and then gone. These flowers have been given such divine attention, yet they are very temporary.
Think about that. God, the mighty, strong, Lord of hosts, personally, beautifully imagined and designed all the details of flowers. No detail was insignificant.
Flowers are valuable to God, but we are of much more value. We are made in God's image. This type of loving detail speaks to the worries of our hearts.
Jesus teaches us something different. He tells us to consider the lilies—to see that God cares about the details of our lives, and that he will not miss anything. He teaches us to rest our hearts in God's care. God doesn't miss the details. Jesus teaches us to turn from how we think things should go, to trusting in the God who knows how things should go, and will bring it about.
