The Power to Take Your Next Step

Have you ever experienced leaning into a strong wind?

Maybe as a kid or even adult, you’d lean into the wind, and you wouldn’t fall over because the wind is so powerful. A few weeks ago, I was in California, and I experienced the Santa Ana winds. They are powerful gusts of wind, that not only have the strength to blow you around as you are walking down the street, but they can even blow semi-trucks over on the highways. Amazing!

Isn’t it amazing that something invisible can be so powerful!?

Think about it. We all experience the wind, but no one can see the wind. We can’t see the wind, but we all believe in the wind. We can’t see the wind, but we can see the effects of the wind.

Jesus teaches us that a relationship with the Spirit of God is like a relationship with the wind—in fact the word we translate “Spirit” can also be translated as wind or breath. We can’t see the Spirit of God; he is invisible. But we can have a relationship with the Spirit.

We can know his power! We can know his power in being born again. Being born again doesn’t mean to go back into the womb to come back out again. And being born again isn’t just about changing a view or some kind of lifestyle change. Being born again, Jesus says, is to have a new relationship with God. It’s like a spiritual heart transplant. An old worn out heart is replaced by a new heart that is ready to know and follow Jesus.

If you know Jesus, you have been born again!

Jesus lived and died for you to be born again! Today, remember that you have the powerful Spirit of God working in you, in your heart, in your life. Don’t live today as if you have no power. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is willing and able to give you the power you need today to follow Jesus, wherever he may lead you and whatever he may call you to do. You have the power to take the next step!
