by Pastor Tim Prince

“Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
Matthew 18:18-20

Jesus’ teaching on reconciliation in Matthew chapter 18 ends with two astonishing and powerful promises. In the first, Jesus promises to hear us when we pray: “…if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” This is in the context of seeking reconciliation with another person with the involvement of the church (thus the plural “two of you”), but the principle can be applied to the whole process (John 14:16-17). If we will seek unity and reconciliation when we’re hurt, God will hear us when we pray. What do you need to obey this command? Courage? Grace? Wisdom? Love? A changed attitude? Ask for it in prayer and you will have it.

Second, Jesus promises to go with us: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” If we’ll work for unity and reconciliation, the Lord will go with us. Amazing. If we seek instead to advance our own agenda, we’ll wind up without him.

The next time you find yourself needing to repair a relationship, remember these two promises. Pray, and then go.

Life is all about relationships. We are made to love God and love others. But relationships are hard. Jesus came to repair our relationship with God, to bring us back into relationship with him. He came to help us love one another.

Jesus is all about repairing and restoring relationships. So Jesus’ emphasis is on doing everything we can to repair and restore relationships. Yet the sad and hard reality is that sometimes we have to let people go; we have to intentionally change the nature of the relationship, or end a relationship all together. On Sunday, Pastor Tim Porter will be talking about: how do you let someone go?

Sunday, Feb. 9 | 6 to 8pm

  • Featuring Voddie Baucham (He will also be preaching in the 9 and 11am worship services on Sunday, Feb. 9.)
  • Childcare available for infants through age 5 at the Faith Forum: register for childcare by Thursday, Feb. 6, at or the FaithBase app.

Some topics are so crucial, current, debated and/or divisive, they require focused attention in addition to sermons. Faith Community introduced Faith Forums in 2015 as an additional way to offer biblical perspective on culturally relevant topics. In our next Faith Forum on Feb. 9, we’ve invited Voddie Baucham to discuss the topic: The Gospel and Justice. Every human heart desires justice, and Jesus is absolutely committed to seeking and establishing justice. And, all who follow Jesus are called to seek justice. But not all concepts of justice align with what Jesus is establishing. Sometimes, even, the justice we are seeking to establish can be contrary to Jesus’ vision for justice. Voddie Baucham will seek to humbly and clearly help us to work toward a justice that Jesus has come to establish.

Voddie Baucham is a husband, father, pastor, author, professor, conference speaker and church planter. He currently serves as Pastor of Preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas. He has served as an adjunct professor at the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, Texas, Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and has previously lectured at Southern Seminary. He helps ordinary people understand the significance of thinking and living biblically in every area of life. Learn more at or the FaithBase app.
