Happy Wednesday, FCC! We are one church with one mission meeting in many locations, and this week Vacation Bible School (VBS) is one ministry meeting in many locations around the St Croix Valley. FCC’s Backyard VBS is taking place with 13 host sites and 150 people to help children meet, know and follow Jesus! Would you please pause and pray for God’s Spirit to open up young hearts to say yes to following Jesus? Would you please pray that God would encourage the leaders and give them strength to finish out the week well? Please pray, as well, for the safety of all involved!
The Bible teaches,“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires (James 1.19-20). I have seen this in my life. Rarely have I seen someone angry and accomplishing God-honoring things. Rarely have I been angry and not had to ask for forgiveness for something I have said or done. This is because so often our own anger is because of selfishness.
Because of this and for various other reasons, we tend to not talk a lot about God’s anger. But the Bible, and especially the book of Jonah, shows that God’s anger helps us to trust him, because God’s anger flows from his heart, and his heart is filled with great concern and love for us. When God is angry, he pursues us to restore us.
