TheUpDate Weekly Newsletter - July 3, 2019

Hi, Faith Community! July is here! We have a lot happening at FCC this month--you can read all about it in today's newsletter. Just a reminder that the FCC Office will be closed on Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5.

  • Sunday’s sermon
  • Evangelism workshop: The Five Thresholds and Spiritual Conversations
  • Hymn Sing
  • Vacation Bible School
  • This week’s Bible memory verse
  • FCC News and Events

This Sunday, we welcome Mike Evans as our guest teaching pastor. Mike will continue in the “Real You. Real God.” sermon series with “Fear Shines,” teaching from Psalm 34. Fear is a normal part of being human. At times, the many fears we experience can consume and control our hearts, minds, and choices in our everyday lives. This Psalm will show us how a healthy fear of God can overcome all other fears, order our desires, and bring purpose to our suffering.

Mike Evans helped FCC plant Faith Community Church in New Richmond in 1996 and served there as lead pastor for more than two decades. He now serves with Training Leaders International, one of FCC’s mission extension partners, which helps train pastors across the globe.

Invite a friend! See you on Sunday!

Watch or listen to sermons in the “Real You. Real God.” series at or the FaithBase app. For a nine-minute overview of Psalms in a fun and informative format, watch the nine-minute illustrated presentation of Psalms by the Gospel Project. EVANGELISM WORKSHOP: The Five Thresholds and Spiritual Conversations

Sunday, July 14 | 10:30 a.m. to Noon in the Refuge Room

We want to do everything that we can to help everyone meet, know and follow Jesus. Sometimes, starting a spiritual conversation with your friends, family, and neighbors can be difficult. That's where the Five Thresholds comes in. The Five Thresholds were developed by a team of missionaries here in the United States, who noticed that there are five distinct barriers (thresholds), that people in our culture encounter as they begin meeting Jesus for the first time. The Five Thresholds provide individuals, families and ministry teams a framework for prayer, planning and thinking about their mission together.

Would you or your ministry team like to be more equipped to make good, clear invitations to your friends, family and neighbors?

  • Please join Jill Willeke and Terri Nanda on Sunday, July 14, following the first worship gathering. (There is no registration for the workshop.) They will be teaching about this simple framework for evangelism and talking about some very simple skills that we can all use to engage people with the gospel more effectively.
  • The training will be about 90 minutes long, so please plan to worship at the 9 a.m. service that day.
  • Please note childcare will not be provided.

HYMN SING | JULY 14, 6:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited to a special worship service on the evening of Sunday, July 14, at 6:00 p.m.

  • We’ll be singing hymns from hymnals on the north lawn at FCC.
  • Bring a lawn chair or blanket and come sing with us! In case of inclement weather, the hymn sing will take place in the FCC auditorium.
  • Please invite your friends and neighbors, too!

This year's Vacation Bible School (VBS) theme is PRAISE, and it will take place at FCC from July 29 through Aug. 2, 9 a.m. to noon each day. We will praise God for his: Greatness, Authority, Providence, Power and Love.

  • VBS is open to children entering kindergarten through 5th grade in the fall of 2019.
  • Cost is $15.
  • Many volunteers are needed (6th graders through adults).

Learn more plus register your child or register to volunteer at or the FaithBase app! Invite a friend to come to VBS this summer, too!

Col. 1:15-16 (God’s Character)
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

As an extension of FCC’s Care Ministry, FCC has a team of men and women, who visit people in our FCC family, who may be sick, in the hospital or unable to leave their homes. Would you like someone to visit you? For more information, please call or text Marty Best at 651-592-6504.

Pastor Tim Porter is now on sabbatical until August 25 to rest, refresh, recharge and learn. Please pray for him and his family. Thank you!
