TheUpDate Weekly Newsletter - June 10, 2020

Happy Wednesday, FCC!  I just finished praying for you and I am so grateful for you!

We are one church meeting in many locations right now, and we just added a new one last week with our first step toward regathering. It is great to be together online and it is great to be together in person. I am continually amazed at the ways God is working during this time. Just this last week, God worked through friendships and online church to help a guy say yes to Jesus! God be praised, and thank you for your prayers and your work in the mission!

Can God use me? Can God use you? Can God work through us for meaningful and significant change in this world? Yes! How do we know? God shows us in the story of one of the most famous and greatest kings in history, King David. This week, God shows us what he is like and what he can do through overlooked and seemingly insignificant people. God shows himself when David fights Goliath.

Just a reminder that through the month of June we are planning for an in-person attendance of 100 people at both of the 9:00 and 11:00am services. There’s still some room for this Sunday (June 14), so if you’d still like to RSVP for the in-person services, please RSVP at this link.

Whether you watch at home or are on campus on Sunday, we are one church with one mission: to help everyone meet, know and follow Jesus.

FAITHWORKS 2020 | JUNE 22-26

FaithWorks is now just 12 days away! Each summer, Faith Community Church dedicates a week to serving our neighbors across the St. Croix Valley through FaithWorks, and this summer marks our 10th year! Adaptations will be made, but we will still be loving our neighbors in a significant way  together. If you have any questions, contact Pastor Larry Szyman at

  • Nominate a FaithWorks project at  or the FaithBase app.
  • Register to volunteer during FaithWorks at or the FaithBase app. (About 100 workers, from middle schoolers through adults, are needed each day to help to complete about 50 projects during the week.)
  • If you would like to make a financial donation to FaithWorks, you can make an online donation at  or the FaithBase app.  Thank you!
  • Faith Community Church is holding a scrap metal collection again this year in support of FaithWorks. Scrap metal will be received from 9am-5pm, Monday through Thursday, June 22-25, and 9am-12pm (noon) on Friday, June 26, at dumpsters located at the house just south of the church building, 777 Carmichael Road (look for the sign). Please note, we are not able to accept refrigerators, microwaves, A/C units, automobiles, or anything with freon (unless the freon has already been purged).

In this season of concern over the spread of COVID-19, Faith Community Church and its hosts will hold a Backyard VBS for K-5th graders this summer using the Go Fish “Gotta Move! ” VBS curriculum. VBS will take place Monday, July 20 - Friday, July 24, and is open to children in K-5th grade (2019-20). Children will attend VBS in the backyard o f a neighbor who hosts a Backyard VBS. Learn more about hosting a Backyard VBS, serving as an assistant or registering a child at Registration will close on Monday, July 13, at midnight.

Two of our Hudson neighbors, Tyler Pelton and his wife, have seen some significant, unaddressed needs on the north side of Minneapolis where they both work. Tyler reached out to FCC, and we are happy to partner with him to be of help! They will be back this weekend from 10am to 1pm on Saturday and 11am to 2pm on Sunday with a van in the FCC parking lot to receive donated goods, which he will then deliver. And, thank you to all of you who donated items last weekend! Items needed include:

          -hand sanitizer
-shampoo/ conditioner for people of color
          -bars of soap
          -laundry detergent
          -baby wipes
          -feminine products
-non-perishable food (preferably not canned goods)
          -bottled water
-first aid supplies (bandages for dark skin colors, if available)
          -travel size toiletries
          -new underwear, socks, white t-shirts
          -flip flops

In addition, if you’d like to help resource churches in Minneapolis and St. Paul with time and financial gifts, so that the gospel works its way into building beautiful neighborhoods that to God’s glory look more and more like the kingdom of God, here are a couple of options:

1 Cor. 6:18-20 (Temptation)

18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Although we’re all experiencing a lot of change right now, our mission stays the same: to help everyone meet, know and follow Jesus. We have an opportunity to reach thousands through our new online services and resources. Your faithful giving helps support our shared mission. Thank you for your generosity!
